Ar. Zarna Shah, have successfully completed the Conserving Modern Architecture In India (CMAI), a prestigious program by the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), developed in collaboration with INTACH and CEPT University.
The CMAI is an internationally recognized, comprehensive program aimed at advancing the practice of conserving twentieth-century heritage, with a special focus on modern architecture. This initiative brings together mid-career professionals from diverse fields such as architecture, conservation, engineering, and site management to address the challenges of preserving modern architectural heritage.
The course was conducted in a blended format, consisting of four weeks of online teaching (January 8 – February 5, 2025), followed by a week of in-person sessions at CEPT University, Ahmedabad (February 16-21, 2025). This intensive program covered a wide range of topics, including:
- Understanding conservation challenges of modern architecture
- Technical aspects of conserving modern materials like reinforced concrete
- Value-based conservation approaches
- Strategic advocacy for modern heritage conservation
This experience has been incredibly enriching, providing practical and technical skills essential for modern heritage conservation. The opportunity to learn from renowned national and international experts and collaborate with professionals from across the subcontinent has been truly invaluable.
