MAATI Presents Heritage Reimagined at Conference

Ar. Zarna Shah recently presented MAATI’s research at the “Reframing Vernacular Architecture for a Decolonised World” conference at CEPT University in Ahmedabad, organised in collaboration with Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom. The project, “Heritage Reimagined: Resilient Bamboo Dwellings”, addresses the ecological and structural crisis in Majuli, Assam, where societal pressure drives the uncritical adoption of concrete housing that inevitably sinks in the shifting floodplains. Supported by the INTBAU Grassroots Grant 2025, Zarna developed an innovative bamboo-reinforced foundation that seamlessly integrates modern amenities. By proving that indigenous Mishing construction is a highly advanced, climate-resilient engineering solution, the project actively decolonises architectural practice and empowers the community to rediscover the technical value of their heritage.
