Ar. Zarna Shah, participated in workshop Historic Masonry Structures – Materials, Structure & Conservation between 5th- 9th March 2018. The course introduced us to a scientific understanding of properties and behavior of traditional building materials and structures; building techniques and craftsmanship. Common challenges faced in the field of conservation like incompatibility of modern materials; limitations of IS codes; as well as design, specification and procurement of compatible repair materials were also discussed. The knowledge gained during the workshop has enableus to adopt a scientific approach in conservation and construction projects using compatible materials and sympathetic repair techniques. The workshop was hosted by CEPT Material Laboratory, Conservation Laboratory and CPD.
