The historic towns of India, known for their rich heritage, showcase a unique blend of socio-religious institutions, residential mohallas, temple chowks, craft markets, and bazaars. The regional idiom, based on local culture, materials, climate, and craftsmanship, defines the identity of these places. The project’s intent is urban revitalization through conservation and appropriate interventions, understanding the context at both macro and micro levels.Historic evolution, livelihood sustenance, socio-cultural, economic, and environmental concerns, along with data provided by government and non-government organizations were mapped and drafted. A SWOT analysis helped addressing heritage conservation challenges through sensitive addition, adaptive reuse, and design resolution for revitalization.
